Son of Steve, Alex Bruce started his career at Manchester United’s Academy as a centre back, then moving to Blackburn Rovers as an academy player. He made his professional debut for Oldham Athletic whilst out on loan. After his loan spell, he signed on a free transfer for Birmingham City. He was then loaned back to Oldham and had another loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere Rovers. Following his return, Bruce made a few Premier League appearances for Birmingham. In the Summer transfer window of 2006, he moved to Ipswich Town, and a year later was called up by the Republic of Ireland National Team. Through the 2009-10 season, Bruce captained the side. In 2010, Bruce joined Leicester on loan. He then transferred to Leeds United in the summer of 2010. Bruce was re-united with his father at Hull City, where he was an integral part to the team’s promotion into the Premier League and played in the 2014 FA Cup Final.
