David started his career as a Footballer. He played for various teams such as Luton Town, Shrewsbury Town and Exeter City. He ended his playing career at Peterborough United. He then entered into Coaching/Management. His first coaching role was at Nuneaton Borough. Following this he joined the Coaching staff at Luton Town, later to become Manager. He then was appointed Manager for Spurs where he took the team to a 3rd place finish in the top flight and reached the FA Cup Final, both in his first season. He went on to manage Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday. Since management Pleat has been a regular columnist for The Guardian and features on articles for the Daily Mail. He has appeared as a co-commentator on ESPN, Premier League Productions and Radio 5 Live. Pleat is currently co-commentating for Al Jazeera Sport.
