Son of Steve, Alex Bruce started his career at Manchester United’s Academy as a centre back, then moving to Blackburn Rovers as an academy player. He made his professional debut for Oldham Athletic whilst out on loan. After his loan spell, he signed on a free transfer for Birmingham City. He was then loaned back to Oldham and had another loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere Rovers. Following his return, Bruce made a few Premier League appearances for Birmingham. In the Summer transfer window of 2006, he moved to Ipswich Town, and a year later was called up by the Republic of Ireland National Team. Through the 2009-10 season, Bruce captained the side. In 2010, Bruce joined Leicester on loan. He then transferred to Leeds United in the summer of 2010. Bruce was re-united with his father at Hull City, where he was an integral part to the team’s promotion into the Premier League and played in the 2014 FA Cup Final. Bruce is currently at Wigan Athletic.
